The way my photography works is directly linked to what I have to express and lately I’ve been working on a new project that would deal with couples, love, humanity, relationships … In this attempt to create something new I recruited No & Matt for several tests and working sessions and I totally failed … at creating something new.
I’ve shot several series with Leah during the past two years, and each time the pleasure to discover new personality sides is renewed. She’s a very multi-sided person with a lot to offer, especially being in a kind of between two generations.
When I first saw Alma’s portfolio I was totally amazed and felt like she was what I qualified as « an expression of humanity ». I don’t know how to describe it better, but when I first looked at her pictures, they just sounded real and right, like the truth of a human body deeply settled in a physical reality. Meeting her in person didn’t deny this feeling of humanity and even added a huge load of kindness. Honestly, this is one of the more truthful encounters I had in the past months.
Sometimes you have the opportunity to meet people who will welcome you in their life like if you were an old friend. They offer their trust without any limit, peacefully and honestly and let you in with an open mind. This is how I met Audrey, aka Mimosa Pudica - yeah, just like the flower. We shared a few emails, very few actually and voilà, two sets were planned: /persona/ and /positive motion/.
When I met Jane for the first time, she told me she was usually not the kind of person who will share a lot of her personality with strangers at the first time. I must assume there are exceptions to this rule since she and I connected very easily and after having shared a glass of white wine in a café in our neighborhood, she invited me the next Sunday afternoon to discover her place and a few traits of her personality. She told me her story, how she ended living in the same flat as her best friend, how she has built a shelter for her and her art in these troglodyte rooms as she called them. She smoked a lot, we talked and we finally built this set for /persona/ project.
The beauty of working with models for creating art is how much different are the people you meet. I first met Noémie while working on /discloser/ set, a project where a model uses her body to express emotion and personality sides. Despite she's a young model, Noémie has strong opinions and ideas on how she is the owner of her own body, how she can or want to use it as a mean of expression for feminism.
I met Amanda on Model Mayhem: she's from Toronto and even if she speaks French we decided to talk in English. I'm quite comfortable with it, so I decided to write this post also in English -- hope you don't mind :)
Il y a maintenant quelques semaines j’ai eu l’opportunité de rencontrer Pauline qui m’a accueilli chez elle pour raconter un nouvel opus de /persona/.
Comme toujours dans cette série, le story telling est important : si cette fois les clichés sont un peu plus sombres, le lecteur attentif y trouvera aussi quelques petites choses ramenées du japon.
La nouvelle itération du projet /persona/, qui a commencé avec Bouh il y a quelques mois se poursuit avec Anouck qui m'accueille cette fois dans le sud de la France. C'est aussi l'occasion de poursuivre le travail sur le storytelling, travail qui vient se renforcer par un traitement plus cinématographique que photographique.
Ce projet a connu bien des variantes au cours de ces dernières années, et quelque part je sens que je ne suis pas encore au bouh du chemin (=^_^=). Si le sujet de la personnalité est toujours central dans la démarche, j'ai essayé cette fois ci d'améliorer la partie Storytelling. Il en résulte un certain nombre de clichés comme autant de marches vers des facettes de personnalité.
